The Grid Data Platform DSOs Have Trusted for 40 Years

A purpose-built Network Information System (NIS) for electricity distribution operators combining asset documentation, network modeling, analysis, maintenance, and regulatory reporting in one platform, available on-premises or as a fully managed service through Volue NIO.

Network Intelligence for Electricity Distribution Operators.

NETBAS gives electricity distribution operators a complete, structured view of their grid by combining asset documentation, network modelling, planning support, maintenance workflows, and regulatory reporting in one purpose-built platform.

For many DSOs, grid data is spread across disconnected systems, manual processes, and ageing tools, making it difficult to keep asset records accurate, plan future investments, support field work, and meet evolving regulatory requirements with confidence.

Volue brings four decades of DSO domain experience into NETBAS, giving teams a trusted operational data foundation today and a clear migration path to fully managed NIO SaaS when they are ready.

KEY FEATURES

Grid Asset Registry & Network Model

NETBAS stores every asset in your grid; cables, substations, transformers, protection equipment, and customer connections with electrical parameters, spatial coordinates, connectivity, and lifecycle data in one shared database. With 200+ predefined component types and an automated topology model, your network data is always structured, current, and accessible to every team.

Planning & Analysis, Grid Design, Load Flow & Investments

NETBAS gives planners a full engineering toolset directly on the live network model, load flow, short circuit, reliability indices (SAIFI, SAIDI), and lifecycle cost (LCC) analysis. All grid design work is done in isolated planning workspaces, so new plans are evaluated and approved before any change reaches the operational network.

Maintenance & Field: Work Orders, Inspections & Dispatch

NETBAS Maintenance Manager links work orders directly to grid assets, with structured inspection grades, condition tracking, and preventive and corrective task scheduling. The Field Inspector web app gives field crews access to execute and close work orders on-site, including in offline mode, so the asset database stays current without manual back-office entry.

Integrations: Your Grid Data Integration Hub

NETBAS connects grid data to ADMS, SCADA, ERP, CIS, GIS (ArcGIS), FASIT, EI, and in the NIO SaaS environment the NIO Integration Gateway (REST/JSON APIs). Standardised exports including CIM/CGMES and ArcGIS Geodatabase ensure the network model flows reliably to every downstream system.

One Authoritative Source of Truth

Reduce uncertainty across planning, operations, and reporting by giving every team access to the same trusted grid data foundation.

Built for DSOs, Not Built for Everyone

Support established DSO ways of working with software shaped by real distribution grid requirements, not generic enterprise processes.

Regulatory Compliance Built In

Lower reporting effort and compliance risk by keeping required regulatory data connected to the operational grid record.

The Data Backbone for Real-Time Operations

Give operational systems the reliable grid context they need to support faster, better-informed decisions during live network events.

On-premises today, NIO SaaS when you are ready

Modernize at your own pace while preserving existing investments and reducing future infrastructure, security, and maintenance burden.

USE CASES

A distribution grid is only as manageable as its records. NETBAS gives grid engineers a structured environment to document every component with the technical attributes, spatial coordinates, and connectivity relationships that planning, operations, and regulatory reporting depend on.

Automated validation rules, propagation logic, and a full audit trail of every database change keep data quality high without manual checking. All edits are made in isolated planning workspaces before being commissioned to the live network model, preventing incorrect data from contaminating the operational grid.

NETBAS gives planners the tools to evaluate investment decisions directly on the live network model; load flow, short-circuit analysis, reliability indices (SAIFI, SAIDI, CAIDI), and lifecycle cost (LCC) analysis. Reinforcement alternatives and investment scenarios can be compared before any change is committed.

Grid development projects are managed with status tracking, cost catalogs, and activity logs linked directly to the assets being built or replaced. Investment proposals trace back to verified, auditable grid data, carrying more weight in both internal approvals and regulatory conversations.

Maintenance is most effective when it is based on the actual condition and history of each asset. NETBAS Maintenance Manager supports preventive, corrective, and condition-based maintenance scheduling, with structured inspection grades, defect tracking, and metered equipment values feeding into renewal decisions.

Work orders are dispatched digitally through the Field Inspector web app, which supports offline execution and direct feedback to the central database. Field observations are captured on-site and uploaded immediately keeping asset records accurate without extra administrative overhead.

Nordic DSOs face a specific set of regulatory obligations that generic GIS tools were not built to handle. NETBAS integrates directly with FASIT (Norway) for outage statistics, EI (Sweden) for equivalent reporting, NRL for aviation obstacle registration, and Matrikkel/cadastre for property data alignment.

Under NIS2, DSOs bear responsibility for their own compliance, but NETBAS delivered through NIO SaaS provides a certified supply-chain partner: ISO/IEC 27001 (2022), 24/7 SOC monitoring, EU data residency, and an auditable change history across all asset data.
