OSLO, 24 September 2026 - Volue has onboarded Enery’s Nova Zagora Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in southeastern Bulgaria onto the Volue Trading Suite (smartPulse), an end-to-end solution that enables the asset to participate across multiple power markets. The large-scale BESS is now part of Enery's existing portfolio managed through the Volue Trading Suite.

Nova Zagora has a total capacity of 601.8 MWh and an output of 150 MW, making it the largest battery energy storage system in Central and Eastern Europe. It delivers a milestone for Bulgaria's energy transition, providing critical grid stability and enabling the integration of renewable energy sources.

“The energy system is being rebuilt around distributed, renewable assets, and how well operators run them will define the next decade of the transition. BESS facilities like Nova Zagora must serve the grid and compete in fast-moving markets at the same time, and doing both well takes intelligence, speed, and automation working as one,” said Önder Akar, SVP, Volue Trading Suite.

“Enery is one of the companies leading that shift, and we are proud to partner with them on such a significant project. By onboarding Central and Eastern Europe's largest BESS onto the Volue Trading Suite, we are turning a landmark asset into a blueprint for how flexibility creates value for the market and the grid alike.”

Built for a market in transition

Across the European continent, renewable capacity is rising, day-ahead and balancing prices are becoming increasingly volatile, and flexible capacity is scarce. Bulgaria sits at that pivot point.

Large-scale facilities like Nova Zagora are becoming essential infrastructure, absorbing surplus renewable output, firming supply, and responding to grid demands within seconds. Across Central and Eastern Europe, this increased flexibility will enable more wind and solar to connect without overwhelming the network.

By running Nova Zagora on the Volue Trading Suite, Enery maximises revenue opportunities through a fully integrated workflow spanning forecasting, trading, scheduling, and dispatch, while reducing manual intervention, responding faster to market signals, and maintaining tighter control of grid commitments.

Just as importantly, it gives Enery a repeatable operating model it can apply as its distributed portfolio grows across the continent, compounding operational know-how and commercial performance asset by asset.

More value from every asset

By connecting to the Volue Trading Suite, Enery can use Nova Zagora to stack revenue across day-ahead, intraday, and ancillary-services markets rather than chasing a single price signal.

Enery and Volue's strategic collaboration was designed precisely for moments like this: enabling renewable energy producers and battery owners to thrive as distributed energy assets while competing in real-time power markets. Nova Zagora embodies that vision: a critical piece of Bulgaria's energy infrastructure that must balance grid stability and renewable integration with commercial performance in volatile European markets.

Petya Dimova, Head of Power Trading at Enery, said: “Nova Zagora's onboarding reinforces Enery's leadership in operating utility-scale storage intelligently, and Volue's role as the intelligence layer connecting distributed and flexible assets to markets, grids, and increasing demand. As Europe electrifies and its power system grows more distributed, operating BESS facilities like Nova Zagora intelligently is becoming decisive infrastructure for the energy transition.”
